Falling for Fiorellino
470 Rue de la Gauchetière O, Montréal, QC H2X 1E3
I kept reading about this new Italian restaurant that is perfect for a date, family dinner, or girls night- I had to see for myself how one little spot could cater to so many different tastes. After visiting with a few of my fav girlfriends, I totally get it.
Part of the romance of the space is that it feels hidden. You turn a corner onto De La Gauchetière and there lies an unexpected and beautiful Italian restaurant. When you enter you are greeted by a bright blue patterned wall (the cool), and a dimly lit and rustic space (the warm). There are floor-to-ceiling windows allowing tons of natural light in during the day, and for the perfect view of the church across the street come evening.
Despite the stunning décor, to me, the best part about this place is that they are not trying to fit any mould. They open at 7 am on weekdays, so you could stop by for a coffee and cornetto, or grab some (authentic) pizza and pasta with your family or a date. Fiorellino is approachable without compromising on atmosphere.
My friends and I shared the Carpaccio di Zucca- thinly sliced squash with chili, crème fraîche, and candied nuts, followed by the Prosciutto Crudo pizza topped with prosciutto and fior di latté, and finally one of the special’s of the evening, a pasta with lamb ragu. I would literally order each dish again if I didn’t want to try everything else on the menu… Pair with a bottle of wine and you are in for a treat. If you saved some room, the bombolone toast- a brioche french toast sandwich stuffed with dreamy whipped cream and sour cherries, is a must.
