Get Him to the Greek
Montreal does Greek well…and that’s a fact. We have a number of establishments all over the city serving authentic Greek fare. I recently visited a relatively new Greek restaurant in Outremont called Les 9 Muses and was delighted by their modern Greek menu and hospitality.
The restaurant is cozy, quiet, and casual. I could easily see this becoming a favourite winter time dinner spot. During the summer, take advantage of their cute terrace and dine outdoors.
Les 9 Muses serves all of the classics from zucchini chips, to loukoumades (or as I call them, Greek Honey Balls). Start off with warm pita, order some zucchini chips and tzatziki, a greek salad (of course), and my personal favourite- the baked feta. Seriously. Baked. Feta. The octopus was grilled to perfection, drizzled with olive oil, and studded with capers. For the main, my family shared a Mediterranean sea bass (which was flaky and delicious), while I had the swordfish. Mains are accompanied with rice or fries and some steamed vegetables.
Finally, the meal must come to a decadent end, and that can only mean a plate of warm honey balls dusted with cinnamon. A sweet end to a light and flavourful Mediterranean meal.
Would I come here for a wild girls night out? Maybe if just the right amount of Ouzo was flowing……but probably not. Would I return with my family, or for a quiet date night on quaint Bernard street? Definitely.
One of the owners spent a good amount of time talking to us and is a really nice guy. On top of that, he has plenty of experience on the Montreal restaurant scene- and he obviously knows his Greek food!
What to wear: Keep it casual and comfortable, so that you could take a walk down Bernard and Laurier afterwards!
Stay in the know: They take reservations and have a terrace- call ahead.
