Brunch à la “Cart”

I always refer to Sunday as Brunchday and that’s because I never miss the chance to to cap off a perfect weekend with a delicious brunch.

Recently I tried the mother of Montreal brunches at ÊAT- the W Hotel’s answer to our weekend brunch needs. Opened Saturday and Sunday from 11-4, ÊAT takes brunching to a whole other level. If you haven’t been, you will be mesmerized by the art surrounding you. What started as a room lined with blank canvases, has transformed into a Montreal-themed art exhibit. Come by for dinner and you may even catch an artist painting their next masterpiece.

Though I do want to go back for dinner, let’s focus on brunch for a minute. We started off by ordering mimosas and expected a couple of flutes to be delivered to our table, but nope- An entire mimosa cart (or guéridon) headed our way equipped with bubbly, fresh fruit, and test tubes filled with different fruit purées. Our strawberry and mango mimosas were created table-side and kicked off what I have labeled our “Brunch à la CART”.

Next up, an original creation made up of yorkshire pudding. candied bacon, hollandaise, and maple syrup. The only way to a Canadian’s heart. This sweet and salty treat was also assembled on a cart table-side.

Another cart pulled up to our table full of pastries. As difficult as it was, we had to pass on these buttery delights as we saved room for what was coming next- Lobster Benedict and Banana Dream Waffles. The Lobster Benedict arrived at the table and tasted as good as it looked. The presentation was stunning- an english muffin topped with butter-poached lobster and hollandaise sauce set in the lobster’s shell and adorned with delicate flower petals. The waffles with chantilly cream and caramelized bananas were equally as beautiful and delicious. They are served with chocolate sauce to pour over-top. And after this, you are still expected to save room for dessert…which once again arrives on a cart…a cake pop cart.

An assortment of cake pops arrives at the table and you are offered to create your own dessert by selecting a pop and two toppings.

So if you are looking for a unique brunch experience, a location for a special occasion, or  if you just want to impress your brunch date (whoever that lucky person may be), look no further than ÊAT! I think I know where you want to be brunching next weekend ;).
