3 Events, 3 Reasons to Get Excited for Summer

Terrasses Bonsecours, Newtown, and Labarake

The month of May was jam-packed with events previewing what terraces in Montreal have to offer this summer. Luckily, the weather cooperated and got us very excited for what’s to come! I can promise you this: terraces all over the city are stepping up their game to bring us unlimited fun in the sun for Montreal’s incredible (and way too brief) SUMMER season! Here is a snapshot of some events I was fortunate enough to attend in the month of May. Thanks to the amazing Tracey Brooke PR for organizing and inviting us to some of Montreal’s chicest social scenes.

1. Terrasses Bonsecours

If you are a Montrealer, you are no stranger to Terrasses Bonsecours. Set on its own “island”, the views of the Old Port captured from one of their multi-level terraces are simply unparalleled. This event was set on the outdoor ground-level terrace where you could grab a bite to eat, or order a pitcher of sangria. It was decorated as a tropical paradise with a fresh-fruit stand, all-natural popsicles, and lush greenery- fruity cocktail in-hand- safe-to-say I was feeling SO ready for summer! We each received a selfie-stick to help document the night- essential for all of those #SummerSelfies! With Grand Prix coming up this weekend, don’t miss out on the fun that is sure to be going down at Terrasses Bonsecours!

2. Newtown

Next-up, Newtown! This Crescent hotspot is definitely not new on the scene, but they have made some changes for summer that will surely sway you to pay them a visit. A roof-top “Mojito Bar” is the ultimate way to grab drinks with a view, while their South American-inspired tapas will have you back for more. The event showcased the Mojito Bar (the Pimms mojito was my personal favourite), as well as a Ceviche bar, where we got to select the seafood base and ingredients to create our very own ULTIMATE Ceviche. With all that Crescent has to offer during Grand Prix weekend, I’m sure Newtown’s rooftop will be the place to be and be seen.

3. Labarake

The third event exposed a restaurant and terrace a little off the beaten path- Labarake. The resto, located on Rachel Est, was celebrating it’s first anniversary and the start of new head chef Joaqim Henni. Despite its obscure location, the restaurant, set in an old fire station, is spacious and stunning – definitely worth the trip for those who don’t live nearby. We sampled their star menu items: tuna lollipops, fish and chips, and beef tartare as well as some of Chef Joaqim Henni’s latest creations. My absolute favourite part of the night was hanging on the large and comfortable terrace with a glass of wine and good friends. Make your way over to Labarake, have some dinner on the terrace, and enjoy its architectural charm.
