Sorry it took me a while to get these fitness posts going – but after a lovely vacation followed by a couple of crazy weeks at work, I’m back!

Orangetheory is a fitness franchise that could be found all across North America. They use Heart Rate Based Interval Training, which burns more calories post-workout than traditional exercise for optimal results. You wear a small heart monitor during the workout that connects to a large screen showing your heart rate and notifying you when you’ve entered the “Orange Zone”. The goal is to do 12-20 minutes in the Orange Zone for optimal calorie burning later on.

A NEW Orangetheory studio recently opened in Town of Mount Royal to add to their fast expanding roster of locations around Montreal. I was invited to a workout class hosted by Orangetheory and New Balance and have provided a brief summary on my experience below! Shoutout to New Balance for providing us with the cutest workout gear and running shoes, which I am obsessed with (so cute and comfortable)!

I will be following this same format for all MTL Fitness Maven Posts. Please don’t hesitate to comment below if there is something you feel should be added for a more complete fitness review!

ORANGETHEORY TMR

Where? Town of Mount Royal, but they also have studios in Pointe Claire, Boucherville, Rosemere, and coming soon…Griffintown!

Type of Class: Heart Rate Interval Training Circuit

Description:  Circuit training while wearing a heart monitor intended to track the amount of time you spend in the “Orange Zone” for optimal post-workout calorie burning! The class consists of a combination of treadmill, rowing, and strength training using weights, body weight, and TRX.

Length of class: 1-hour

Price: $25 to drop-in. Monthly packages are available.

Expertise of Trainers: Definitely experts and super helpful, but difficult for teachers to constantly monitor form since there are two different stations happening simultaneously. There is a screen that you could reference which shows proper form for the floor / weight training portion of class, which was very helpful.

Good for beginners? Yes – just be aware that there is A LOT of cardio. You could definitely go at your own pace and there are several modifications provided for each station (aside from the rowing station). The on-screen videos are also helpful – I used them pretty often during my workout!

Available on MINDBODY App? Yes!

Privacy Scale: Medium-Sized Group Class (15-18 people – could vary depending on the time and date of class)

Atmosphere / Language: Staff were very warm and welcoming. The group was asked for language preference – the majority spoke and understood French, so the class itself was held in French.

Snacks or Smoothie Bar on-site? No, so if you’re headed straight to work, make sure to come prepared! They do offer some drinks for purchase and there is a Copper Branch and Provigo within the same complex.

Music: Upbeat and fun!

Showers & Amenities: 3 showers

Commitment issues? No worries!First session free and their membership works on a month-to-month basis (no annual commitment).

Additional Notes: Post-class you get an e-mail with your Performance Summary – I love that you’re able to track your progress over time!

My performance summary!
