Moretti Makes Griffintown A Destination For Great Italian Food

1059 Rue Wellington O, Montreal, Quebec, QC H3C 1V6

You may not have heard of Pizzeria Moretti yet, but I guarantee that you will be hearing a lot about it in the coming weeks. Moretti opened quietly at the beginning of this summer where Restaurant Doca once was at the corner of Peel and Wellington in Griffintown. They did not have any big launch event. They did not invite any bloggers or influencers. Their strategy: serve food that will impress and get people talking. In my opinion, they’re on the right track.

The restaurant still seems to be finding its footing in terms of service, but the menu, food, and atmosphere outweigh the negatives by a landslide.

Though Doca was a beautiful restaurant, Moretti completely transformed the space. The new décor featuring exposed brick walls, exposed ceiling pipes, and garage doors in place of windows, fits seamlessly in industrial-chic Griffintown. On a beautiful summer night the garage doors are kept open making the restaurant feel even more spacious and airy.

The Italian menu has several antipasti, salads, pastas, pizzas, meat, and fish – something for everyone. We started with a classic Margherita pizza and eggplant parmigiana. The pizza dough and sauce were both perfection. The eggplant parmigiana was fresh and featured that same delicious tomato sauce.

My main was a Pappardelle pasta with fior di latte, prosciutto, and rosé sauce. DO NOT… I repeat … DO NOT … MISS THIS PASTA DISH! Pappardelle is already my favourite pasta noodle … but covered in this rosé sauce with chunks of creamy fior di latte and bites of smoky and salty prosciutto – I just couldn’t get enough. My family ordered the Tagliolini with mushrooms, Gnocchi in tomato sauce, and Chicken Parm – everyone was extremely satisfied.

For dessert – a cappuccino and tiramisu. I was way too excited about both and forgot to photograph. They were excellent.

With some fine-tuning on the service front, Moretti is well on it’s way to becoming Griffintown’s best Italian restaurant.
