Restaurant Kozu Takes Rue Rachel to New Heights

500 Rue Rachel E, Montréal, QC H2J 2H2

It’s no secret that I love summers in Montreal, and not only because of the weather – we also get tons of exciting restaurant and bar openings all over the city. This summer is no exception. There are a handful of very exciting launches, and one in particular that I couldn’t wait for was Restaurant Kozu.

Kozu opened its doors on Rachel a few weeks ago and is already poised to be one of this summer’s hot spots. This is no surprise to me considering Chef Olivier Vigneault, the same chef who designed Jatoba’s menu, is also behind Kozu’s.

Aside from the well-thought out casual sharing-style Asian menu with options from steamed and pan fried dumplings to torched hamachi, the Kozu team has also designed a beautifully chic space taking Rue Rachel to new heights. The space feels fun with plenty of greenery and gold, and elegant black marble tables. Kozu will quickly become THE destination for creative cocktails and Asian small plates in the city.

My favourite dishes of the night included the shrimp and pork steamed dumplings and smokey mushroom salad to start. The torched hamachi that followed was equally delicious, and the BBQ ribs literally fell off the bone. I would also recommend the agedashi tofu which arrived wrapped in seaweed with a tangy dipping sauce. The texture of the yuzu and raspberry dessert was not my personal favourite, but it was beautifully presented and definitely a light and refreshing end to a great meal.
