Mediterranean Tapas by the Sea (or the Old Port…Close Enough)

112 Rue McGill #1, Montréal, QC H2Y 2E5

About a week ago I was treated to some fine late night dining at Ikanos in Old Montreal. The modern Greek restaurant just launched a late night menu, so you could now taste their gourmet cuisine for a fixed price of $24 after 10pm. And look out Montrealers: They have a terrace! As we know (all too well), nothing pairs better than a glass of wine and seafood eaten al fresco! And if you’re craving a summer cocktail, they have you covered-  they are beautiful & refreshing- perfect for summer.

Come summertime, us Montrealers don’t dare step foot inside a restaurant, but it happened to be a cooler night, so we opted for two seats at the bar. The restaurant is visually stunning with a gorgeous bar, wooden beams, and hanging lights. It is both intimate and cool and makes for a perfect date spot.

The service was prompt and warm, and our seats at the bar allowed us to get to know the bartender and owner a little bit. Both are clearly passionate about food and drinks and gave great recommendations as to what we should order.

We started with a fresh swordfish tataki served with capers, tomatoes, and sliced green beans followed by a grilled shrimp dish with ravioli in a light broth. The grilled octopus definitely stood out. The charcoal flavour and sweet fig & olive tapenade were an interesting and delicious combination that left me wanting more. Finally the duck magret served with a duck spring roll, brussel sprouts, and oyster mushroom went beyond expectations. The dish was creative, well-executed, and beautifully presented.

I would highly recommend a trip to Ikanos! Chic, romantic, and the food is divine. If you work in the area, they also offer a $24 lunch special!
