A Real Culinary Experience

1268 Av Van Horne, Outremont, QC, H2V 1K5

The process is all too familiar. Sit down at your table, peruse the menu for a dish that intrigues, and order.

Restaurant Provision, a restaurant in Outremont that opened about five weeks ago, is trying to break the mold by redefining how we order.

A blackboard hanging on the wall of this tiny restaurant that seats about thirty people lists around ten ingredients. These ingredients arrived fresh from the market TODAY and are used to create unique dishes for diners. Here’s the catch. There is no menu. You didn’t read that wrong- really…they don’t have a menu.

Although we had a reservation, we waited about half an hour for our table. They were apologetic for the wait and brought us delicious drinks on the house to compensate. My personal favourite was the 1268, which is a cocktail made using purple corn.

So here’s how it works: One of the owners asked us if we were picky eaters, had any allergies, or if we really didn’t like anything. We let her know that we would eat pretty much anything. She explained that there was a tasting menu for $50 a person that consisted of two appetizers, two mains, and a dessert to share. We opted for the tasting menu. That day’s ingredients included:

We waited with excitement for each dish to come out and thoroughly enjoyed finding out what we were eating next as the meal continued. Throughout the meal we gained an understanding of seasonal ingredients and how they work together to create unique and fresh dishes. Watch the meal unfold below.
Fresh Bread with Sea Salt

Radish Salad (with other seasonal ingredients)
Smoked Salmon from Vancouver with Capers and Dill
Seared and Smoked Tuna with Yellow and Green Zucchini
Duckling with Cucumber (and other seasonal ingredients)
Their take on a PB&J (and yes, that’s Elmo)
Homemade Oreos with Mint Sorbet and Miso Chocolate Ice Cream
Cookie Monster also made an appearance 🙂

Overall I would describe this meal as an experience highly recommended for non-picky eaters. It was a pleasure to sit down and not have to choose between a slew of dishes. On top of that, everything that arrived at our table was truly delicious and well thought-out! Take your taste buds on a trip through our local markets by paying a visit to Restaurant Provision. Reserve! This restaurant is small and tends to fill up quickly!
